We are an after school program for K-12 oriented towards music and blues music specifically as an original American genre of music.
Blues in the School provides youth with music education, music lessons, and practical application of musical instruments. Our intent is to elicit appreciation of music history and the birth of the Blues as a popular genre of music from African Americans. Highlighting the evolution of music in the United States. Lesson plans focus on learning music by applying practical methods to play musical instruments and vocal training. The program facilitates the collaboration of professional musicians with local schools. The lessons are free to students and completely voluntary. Students learn to play guitar, drums, bass and other instruments associated with rhythm and blues. Each four-week program culminates in a Blues Concert performed by the students for family, friends, faculty, and the greater community.
We are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization with the purpose to benefit K-12 students in their development in culture, science, technology, engineering, and math. You might be an artist who would like to introduce yourself and your work here or maybe you’re a business with a mission to describe.
